EXERCISE TESTING SERVICES

 PERFORMANCE TESTING

 VO2max Testing (Discontinuous Protocol)

Protocol consists of stages which incrementally increase in intensity until exhaustion.  Oxygen consumption, ventilation, and energy expenditure assessed throughout the protocol.  Blood pressure and blood lactate concentrations (via finger stick) assessed in between stages and lactate threshold is determined.  Testing is performed on either a high-performance treadmill or cycle ergometer.

VO2max Testing (Continuous Protocol)

Protocol consists of gradually increasing intensities until exhaustion.  Oxygen consumption, ventilation, and energy expenditure assessed throughout the protocol.  Testing is performed on either a high-performance treadmill or cycle ergometer.

(WSU-$75/GP-$85)

Lactate Threshold Testing

Protocol consists of gradually increasing intensities until exhaustion.  Periodic blood draws (via finger prick) are taken throughout the test.  Lactate threshold is determined upon analysis of blood lactate concentrations throughout the protocol.  Testing is performed on either a high-performance treadmill or cycle ergometer.

Wingate Testing

Protocol consists of 30-second cycling at an extremely high resistance (proportional to body weight).  Assesses mean and peak anaerobic power as well as fatigue index.  Testing is performed on a high-performance cycle ergometer.

(WSU-$60/GP-$70)

BODY COMPOSITION

BodPod Testing

Testing involves the assessment of body volume through air displacement.  From body volume and body mass, density is calculated and percent body fat and percent lean mass are estimated.  Protocol consists of siting in the BodPod for a total of 2-3 minutes and requires that the participant wear skin-tight clothing.  Among the more accurate methods of assessing body composition available.

(WSU-$40/GP-$50)

Skinfold Testing

Testing involves the assessment of subcutaneous adipose tissue via skinfold calipers at multiple locations on the body.  These sum of these “pinches” allows for the estimation of body density and body fat percentage.

(WSU-$20/GP-$30)

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

Testing consists of passing a small (undetectable) current through the participant’s body.   The extent to which this current is impeded (resistance) allows for the estimation of body fat percentage.

(WSU-$15/GP-$25)

Resting Metabolic Rate

Protocol consists of lying comfortably for approximately 45 minutes while expired air is collected.  This test determines the rate at which calories are used by the individual at rest.  Given the importance of resting metabolic rate in one’s total daily energy expenditure, this test provides information with respect to effective weight loss or gain.
