Dept. of Crop and Soil Sciences Spring Wheat Breeding and Genetics

Welcome to WSU Spring Wheat Breeding and Genetics

Our mission is to develop resilient wheat varieties that are preferred by Washington grain farmers, while simultaneously discovering scientific information and developing tools of benefit to wheat programs and farmers across the country and around the world.  Our long-term efforts to develop superior wheat varieties for the Pacific Northwest are primarily supported by Washington wheat farmers through the Washington Grain Commission, the State of Washington, and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Specific research projects are currently funded by competitive grants and fellowships from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Cornell University (with funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom) through the Durable Rust Resistance in Wheat Project, the Monsanto Beachell Borlaug Fellowship Program, and Washington State University.
