Research

Our research involves experimental studies of well defined risky decision making tasks that are intended to capture the essential elements of real world decisions.  In real world risky decision making, such as investing in a new stock, taking action as an industrial accident unfolds, or selecting medical treatment based on diagnostic test results, decision making  is based on prior knowledge and belief, currently available information, as well as emotions or affect associated with the situation.  We examine how prior knowledge or belief can bias decision making, and how biases can be influence by available information, and how knowledge representations interact with emotional or affective processes.
