Phil Uribe presents at Velo Cult

Phil at VelocultPhD student Phil Uribe entertained a packed house on Oct 29th at Velo Cult bike shop in Portland, sponsored by NW Noggin.  Phil helped the audience understand how we hear, and how we lose our hearing, complemented by an audience participation hair cell dance and visual art by PSU student Kimberly Cordray.  Get all the details here!

Slide1Congratulations to Matthew Kruger, MS in Zoology, who successfully defended his thesis entitled, “NATURAL COMPOUNDS PROTECT ZEBRAFISH LATERAL LINE SENSORY HAIR CELLS FROM AMINOGLYCOSIDE TOXICITY.” We wish Matthew the best of luck on his cross-country journey as he starts his PhD at the University of Maine.

Admissions and awards for Coffin lab members!

It’s been a great December for current and former lab members.  Congratulations are in order for:

Phil Uribe (Ph.D. student, Neuroscience) passed his preliminary exam and advanced to doctoral candidacy.

Chau Nguyen (B.S. 2013) was accepted to medical school at the University of Washington.

Matthew Kruger (M.S. student, Biology) was accepted to graduate school (PhD) at the University of Maine.

Undergraduates Sarah Neveux and Nicki Smith, and graduate student Phil Uribe, all received travel awards from WSU Vancouver.  All three will present their research at the 2015 Association for Research in Otolaryngology mid-winter meeting.

Congratulations to all of them for their success!
