Research Interests

Waheed’s research centers on advancing safety, sustainability, and resilience in civil infrastructure through interdisciplinary approaches that integrate engineering, data science, and emerging technologies. His interests include:

  • Construction Safety Investigating risk factors and mitigation strategies in construction environments, with a focus on reducing injuries and improving compliance through proactive safety planning.
  • AI Safety Integration in the Workplace Exploring how artificial intelligence can be leveraged to enhance hazard detection, predictive safety analytics, and decision-making in dynamic work environments.
  • Hydrology Studying water flow systems and their interaction with infrastructure, particularly in the context of flood risk management, stormwater design, and climate-resilient planning.
  • Workzone Safety Developing frameworks for improving safety in temporary traffic control zones, including sensor-based monitoring, behavioral analysis, and policy evaluation.
  • Data Center Safety Assessing physical and operational risks in high-density data environments, with emphasis on fire protection, structural integrity, and emergency response systems.
  • Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure Systems Designing and evaluating infrastructure that can withstand environmental stressors while minimizing ecological impact, integrating lifecycle cost analysis and performance-based metrics.
