{"id":13,"date":"2017-03-26T12:24:02","date_gmt":"2017-03-26T19:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/labs.wsu.edu\/du\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2024-11-11T12:48:04","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T20:48:04","slug":"research-overview","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/labs.wsu.edu\/du\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--single\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h2><strong>Welcome to Nutrigenomics and Growth Biology Laboratory<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We explore the epigenetic mechanisms linking maternal nutrients\/metabolites to embryonic and fetal development, specifically epigenetic regulation of stem (progenitor) cell lineage commitments and differentiation into myocytes and adipocytes.<\/p>\n<p>Our studies have applications to both animal agriculture and human health:<\/p>\n<p><em>For animal agriculture<\/em>, we are studying the impact of early nutrition on the growth and development of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, which impacts animal production efficiency and meat quality.<\/p>\n<p><em>For human health<\/em>, we are exploring the epigenetic changes in progenitor cells during embryonic and fetal development as affected by maternal obesity and exercise.<\/p>\n<p>For our studies, we use bioinformatic analysis, computational modeling, <em>in vitro<\/em> cell culture, transgenic animals and livestock.
