Welcome to the Early Learning Lab!

The Early Learning Lab is part of the Department of Human Development at Washington State University. Our research investigates variability in children’s early learning, with a focus on mathematical development. Three lines of research address this goal. First, we examine how mathematical skills and interest develop over time, beginning in early childhood. Second, we design and implement playful learning interventions to improve the mathematical interest and skills of children from low-income households. Third, we investigate social influences on children’s academic achievement, including interactions with parents, teachers, and peers.
