Besides signing, they had to disinfect their hands again, and they would use the rubbing alcohol to clean the latches on the doors, on the way in and the way out, and I have a trash can out there they could use.&nbsp; So I think that that was very helpful, because the epidemic didn\u2019t come to me here.&nbsp; But yes, well, yes, it is a lot of stress because one doesn\u2019t know where the parents are coming from.&nbsp; And as I was saying, you know, the kids chat to you, no, \u201cwe went here\u201d and \u201cwe went there.\u201d&nbsp; So the situation,\u2026 I would put [the supplies] out there for them, I put out the COVID brochures, the instructions, and I recommended to them that, if they spent time with people that weren\u2019t from their house, that they needed to tell me, because, well, for the good of the other kids and of us ourselves.&nbsp; It was a constant conversation, and yes, well, it\u2019s stressful, because it\u2019s more of the work that one has to do to keep working.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Interview with Dolores<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolores, who has run her in-home center for 23 years, described adjusting to the Covid situation as \u201cshocking,\u201d because she could not provide support and affection in the usual way. \u201c\u2026It was a strict situation\u2026the morning hug, they want a kiss for teacher, they want to be tickled\u2026they give each other hugs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolores explained social distancing procedures as safety-based and in terms that the children \u201ccould understand\u2026but without making them feel fearful of the situation.\u201d She found, however, that her efforts were \u201c\u2026not all that effective,\u201d and she felt that instead of being able to offer physical affection and comfort as she had in pre-pandemic times, \u201cthere [I was] with the disinfecting towelette.\u201d During this period, Dolores observed the children as saddened, \u201cin the way they play[ed] and the way their characters change[d].\u201d Instead of chatting with her or other children, Dolores noticed the children occasionally sharing their feelings with a stuffed owl armchair.&nbsp; She said, \u201cI had to be cleaning it all the time because they would go over there to chat with the owl, about how they were feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolores said she sensed things were beginning to return to normal while acknowledging the stress of working during the height of the pandemic. \u201cIt\u2019s like, I don\u2019t know, it feels different, a little like\u2026we do need a break.\u201d She found talking with the interviewer to be \u201creally great\u2026this kind of interview of how we feel during the time of the epidemic\u2026that\u2019s very good, it was relaxing to talk with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Espanol-About\"><em>From full interview transcript of 2,499 words<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-6\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2921\/2022\/03\/delores.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-319\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2921\/2022\/03\/delores.jpg 480w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2921\/2022\/03\/delores-396x528.jpg 396w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#981e32;font-size:24px\">Dolores<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Platicando con el b\u00faho<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Espanol-About\"><em>Como que ya se nos vinieron todos los &#8211; como que se vino una carga superior a nosotros.\u00a0 Como si fuera la obligaci\u00f3n, pues la obligaci\u00f3n de uno es estar trabajando duro en ese tiempo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/s3.wp.wsu.edu\/uploads\/sites\/2921\/2022\/03\/dolores.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sobre Mi Foto<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cuando los padres llegaban en la ma\u00f1ana, ten\u00edan que traer su m\u00e1scara. Entrando a la puerta ellos&#8230;, yo les tengo una botella de alcohol y una botella de desinfectante de las manos. Entonces en cuanto ellos llegaban, ellos tomaban la botella para desinfectar las manos y para poder firmar. Entonces, mientras que yo llevaba a los ni\u00f1os para lavarse las manos, ellos firmaban. Aparte de firmar, se ten\u00edan que volver a desinfectar las manos y usaban la botella de alcohol para limpiar las chapas de las puertas, de entrada y de salida, y afuera les tengo un bote donde ellos pod\u00edan poner. Entonces creo que eso me sirvi\u00f3 mucho porque no me lleg\u00f3 la epidemia aqu\u00ed. Pero, s\u00ed, pues s\u00ed es mucho estr\u00e9s porqu\u00e9 pues no saben de d\u00f3nde vienen los padres. Y como dec\u00eda, ya ves, los ni\u00f1os platican, no que \u201canduvimos pa\u2019 ac\u00e1\u201d y \u201canduvimos pa\u2019 all\u00e1.\u201d Entonces la situaci\u00f3n \u2026 yo les pon\u00eda ah\u00ed, les puse los folletos del COVID, las instrucciones y les recomendaba que, si ellos andaban con personas que no fueran dentro de su casa, que necesitaban avisarme porque pues para el bien de los dem\u00e1s ni\u00f1os y de nosotras mismas. Era una pl\u00e1tica constante y s\u00ed, pues es estresante porque es m\u00e1s del trabajo de lo que usted tiene que hacer para continuar su trabajo.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Nuestra Entrevista con Dolores<\/strong><br>Dolores, quien lleva 23 a\u00f1os dirigiendo su centro de cuidado en casa, describi\u00f3 el ajuste a la situaci\u00f3n de Covid como \u201ctraumante\u201d porque ella no pod\u00eda ofrecer apoyo y cari\u00f1o de la manera acustombrada.&nbsp; \u201c&#8230; era una situaci\u00f3n estricta \u2026 el abrazo de la ma\u00f1ana, que quieren ellos un beso para la teacher, quieren que les haga cosquillas &#8230;se dan abrazos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolores explic\u00f3 que los procedimientos de distanciamiento social se basaban en la seguridad, usando t\u00e9rminos que los ni\u00f1os \u201cpod\u00edan entender la situaci\u00f3n, pero sin tener que ellos sientan un miedo de la situaci\u00f3n.\u201d&nbsp; Ella vio, sin embargo, que sus esfuerzos eran \u201cpoco efectivos\u201d y sinti\u00f3 que en lugar de poderles ofrecer cari\u00f1o tactil y confort como lo hac\u00eda en tiempos pre-pand\u00e9micos, \u201call\u00ed [estaba] con la toallita desinfectante.\u201d&nbsp; Durante este periodo, Dolores observ\u00f3 que los ni\u00f1os estaban entristecidos, \u201cen el modo de jugar y en el modo de cambio de sus car\u00e1cteres.\u201d&nbsp; En lugar de platicar con ella o con otros ni\u00f1os, Dolores notaba que de vez en cuando los ni\u00f1os compart\u00edan sus sentimientos con un asiento en forma de b\u00faho.&nbsp; Ella dijo \u201cten\u00eda que limpiarlo cada ratito porque pues se iban all\u00ed a platicar con el tecolote (b\u00faho) por c\u00f3mo se sent\u00edan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolores dijo que le daba la impresi\u00f3n de que las cosas empezaban a volver a la normalidad, mientras reconoc\u00eda el estr\u00e9s provocado por trabajar durante plena pandemia.&nbsp; \u201cEso como que, no s\u00e9, se siente algo diferente. Un poco como que .. s\u00ed, necesitamos ya un break.&#8221;&nbsp; Ella dijo que al hablar con la entrevistadora, se sinti\u00f3 \u201cmuy bien \u2026 este tipo de entrevistas, de c\u00f3mo nos sentimos nosotras con el tiempo de la epidemia \u2026 eso est\u00e1 muy bien.
