About My Picture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My photos, more than anything I wanted to take a picture related to hygiene.  As one uses disinfectants and masks quite a bit, and that\u2019s something new for us, that we\u2019re still not able to adapt to, and for the kids it\u2019s quite difficult.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026it\u2019s an inconvenience because the kids aren\u2019t getting used to wearing their mask and to be disinfecting and disinfecting, and that one has to be separating them a lot, all the time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[There is] frustration. Yes, because the kids, they always want to be together, playing, active.  And well,  \u2026you see, the houses are small areas, it\u2019s very difficult for us.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Interview with Gabriela<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When the pandemic began, Gabriela\u2019s primary concerns were not knowing what happened when the children she cared for left her home, as well as the damage an infection from the outside could do to her professional reputation and personal health: \u201cWhen they leave my house, I don\u2019t know what happens\u2026I know what happens with me, but not with them\u2026the worry, more than catching it, yes, that they give it to me, but\u2026also that the parents might think or say that they got it at [my] house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soon after the onset of the pandemic, Gabriela\u2019s enrollment numbers dropped to below half her usual capacity. Despite the obvious impacts on her income, Gabriela found that caring for three children helped ease her worries, especially because the three were siblings, a factor she considered a stroke of luck because it reduced exposure from outside. Further reducing her exposure was the fact that she worked in her own home, so that she \u201cdidn\u2019t have anything to go do outside.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenges and frustrations of keeping her business afloat while adjusting to pandemic conditions, Gabriela maintained, \u201cI like it, my work\u2026The kids de-stressed me too.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
