A role in everything <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We are offering a service that, to me, is a very lovely service, and one which is very difficult to carry out \u2026 and many times people don\u2019t value what you do<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, it\u2019s important that this information is made public. Before \u2026 how I can I say this, like maybe not a lot of importance was given to childcare \u2026 And [this project] is good because voices are heard \u2026 It is a very good thing that is happening.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About My Picture <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This picture \u2026 really makes me think about the situation we are living in. How things have changed \u2026 originally, I could have 2 to 3 kids sharing the [sand] table and now I really do have to be giving them turns \u2026 Children are so innocent, aren\u2019t they? \u2026 The only thing they look for is someone who can take good care of them, to feel safe, and this child is very happy, and enjoying it, and that is very nice to see \u2026 They are simply trying to adjust \u2026 and they have done it very well.  <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Interview with Raquel <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

From the start of the pandemic, Raquel was committed to keeping her center open, saying, \u201cThe city closed, all the offices were closed, many places were closed, but not us, we stayed open the entire year.\u201d By the time of the interview, Raquel admitted to feeling drained by the extra work of maintaining health and safety protocols and meeting the needs of elementary-age children during remote schooling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey stayed with me all day and took their classes from here,\u201d she said. Supporting remote schooling meant reducing outdoor time for walking and other activities she previously led with her younger children. It also meant making space in her home for parents to meet with their children\u2019s teachers at the end of their workdays. Raquel summed up her pandemic period experiences with this:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we have a role to play in everything.  We have to play the role of teacher, cook, nurse, cleaning crew, online class support, talking with the teachers, and on top of all this, we have to take care of the children, give them their time, their space, and their attention, each one.  And be prepared for when the parents come, and if they have any worries, find time to talk with them about that worry \u2026 or something [else] about the child.  Then, when you\u2019re free, when all the kids have gone home, then here comes the other job you have to carry out, which is putting everything in order, disinfecting all the areas and toys so it\u2019s all clean and ready for the next day, organizing the paperwork, seeing what appointments you have, what calls you have, and then, yeah, you go to bed late and get up early the next day and continue on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
