I\u2019ve really liked my work.&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-heading\">About My Picture&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Look, I have them all separated, it was very hard for all of us to make it work, because, you know, kids like to be all stuck together and everything.&nbsp; So I sit them down like that, a little bit separated, and I have two little tables, so I put some over there so they\u2019ll have a certain distance, and other kids in the other.&nbsp; \u2026 They use their imagination and their motor skills to color. I ask them, \u201cWhat did you do? What did you color?&nbsp; What is it that you\u2019re seeing, your eyes, what do they see?\u201d And they tell me, \u201cI made a heart.\u201d I said, \u201cWe have a heart?&nbsp; Do you have a heart?\u201d&nbsp; \u201cYes, I have a heart!\u201d and I say, \u201cAnd where do you have it, your heart?\u201d And [the child] said, \u201cIn my tummy!\u201d&nbsp; Aw, so nice!&nbsp; These are kids &#8230; they use their imagination and everything.&nbsp; But yes, it was really hard. Our work [was] very hard &#8230; this whole year was very difficult.&nbsp; Of all my years \u2026 last year and that part of this year, very difficult, very difficult.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-heading\">Our Interview with Juana&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the difficulties of operating her center during the pandemic, Juana said, \u201cI don\u2019t like to leave my work. My job is: I am the owner of this daycare, and I like it.\u201d Her commitment is so unwavering that she even accommodated school-aged kids from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m., for both before-school and school-day supervision.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for all care providers, the pandemic forced Juana to make considerable adjustments to her work schedule, to redouble cleaning and disinfecting routines, to alter pick-up and drop-off procedures and the structure of her limited space to accommodate remote-schoolers alongside younger children, and to educate everyone, from children to parents, on all the above.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juana levied hardly a complaint about the adjustments and instead focused on the absence of serious problems or infections. She said, \u201cThank God, my kids, they didn\u2019t go into shock, I didn\u2019t see them sad \u2026 Everything was very good \u2026 no one was sick.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motivated by those successes, Juana scoured her entire region for needed supplies when hers ran low, asking her adult children to search for her, too, even on the Internet. Nothing turned up, but luckily a friend in Idaho informed her that there were abundant disinfectants, masks, and toilet paper locally. Entonces yo los siento as\u00ed, un poquito separaditos, y tengo dos mesitas, entonces pongo unos as\u00ed que tengan una cierta distancia y otros en otra \u2026 Ellos hacen su imaginaci\u00f3n y usan sus motores para colorear. Les pregunto, \u201c\u00bfQu\u00e9 hiciste? \u00bfQu\u00e9 coloreaste? \u00bfQu\u00e9 es lo que t\u00fa miras, tus ojos, qu\u00e9 miran?\u201d Y ya me dicen, \u201cyo hice un coraz\u00f3n.\u201d Le dije, \u201c\u00bfTenemos un coraz\u00f3n? \u00bfT\u00fa tienes un coraz\u00f3n?\u201d \u201cS\u00ed, \u00a1yo tengo un coraz\u00f3n!\u201d Y le digo, \u201c\u00bfEn d\u00f3nde lo tienes, el coraz\u00f3n?\u201d Y dijo, \u201c\u00a1En la panza!\u201d Ah, \u00a1qu\u00e9 bien! Hay ni\u00f1os que &#8230; usan su imaginaci\u00f3n y todo. Pero s\u00ed, fue muy duro. Nuestro trabajo [fue] bastante duro, bastante, fue todo este a\u00f1o muy pesado. De todos mis a\u00f1os &#8230; el a\u00f1o pasado y la parte de este a\u00f1o, muy pesado, muy pesado.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-heading\">Nuestra Entrevista con Juana&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A pesar de las dificultades de operar su centro durante la pandemia, Juana dijo, \u201cNo me gusta dejar mi trabajo. Mi trabajo es: yo soy la due\u00f1a de este daycare, y me gusta.\u201d Su compromiso es tan firme, que ella hasta acomod\u00f3 a ni\u00f1os de edad escolar, desde las 4am hasta las 3pm, para supervisarlos tanto antes, como durante, el d\u00eda escolar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como fue el caso para todos los proveedores de cuidado, la pandemia oblig\u00f3 a Juana a hacer ajustes considerables a su horario laboral, a redoblar sus rutinas de limpieza y desinfecci\u00f3n, a cambiar los procedimientos para recoger y dejar a los ni\u00f1os, a alterar la estructura de su espacio limitado, para acomodar a los ni\u00f1os que asist\u00edan a clases remotas al lado de los ni\u00f1os menores, y a informar a todos, desde ni\u00f1os a padres, sobre todo lo anterior.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juana apenas levant\u00f3 queja alguna sobre los ajustes; al contrario, se enfoc\u00f3 en que no le toc\u00f3 ning\u00fan problema ni infecci\u00f3n serio.&nbsp; Ella dijo, \u201cGracias a Dios, mis ni\u00f1os no entraron en shock, no los vi tristes \u2026 todo muy bien \u2026 no estuvieron enfermos.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motivada por estos \u00e9xitos, Juana rastre\u00f3 toda su regi\u00f3n en busca de suministros necesarios cuando los suyos empezaban a escasear, pidiendo a sus hijos adultos que tambi\u00e9n buscaran, hasta en el Internet.&nbsp; Nada apareci\u00f3, pero por suerte una amiga en Idaho le inform\u00f3 que hab\u00eda desinfectante, mascarillas y papel higi\u00e9nico en su zona.&nbsp; Juana se puso en contacto con su hijo adulto de inmediato y le dijo, \u201c&#8217;Sabes qu\u00e9, que en Idaho hay [suministros], hijo, \u00bfvamos?&#8217; \u2026 Nos fuimos en ese instante, hombre, no tardamos.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El hijo de Juana la llev\u00f3 en coche para hacer el viaje de cinco horas, que termin\u00f3 al ellos aprovisionarse con suministros para el centro de Juana, y m\u00e1s para compartir con las colegas proveedoras de Juana, de quienes Juana coment\u00f3:&nbsp; \u201cTodas [las proveedoras de casa] salimos adelante, triunfadoras de esto que pas\u00f3 a base de mucho sacrificio y mucho esfuerzo, de que estuvimos trabajando, lavando \u2026 nos ayud\u00e1bamos unas a otras.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>De la transcripci\u00f3n de la entrevista completa, de 3,846 palabras<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>En espa\u00f1ol Juana It\u2019s a five hour trip&nbsp; &nbsp; I\u2019ve been a provider for 25 years, and I\u2019m very proud of that.&nbsp; I feel a lot of satisfaction, I can say.
