Steven M. Fountain is Coordinator of Native American Programs at WSUV, was a Diversity Faculty Fellow for 2013-14 and 2014-15, and received the John Topham and Susan Redd Butler Faculty Research Award from the Redd Center for Western Studies in 2009-2010. He teaches courses in Early American History (HIST 110, 413, 414, & 415), Environmental History (HIST 409 & 494), and Native American History (HIST 308). He also serves as the Faculty Advisor for the WSUV History Club and Phi Alpha Theta (History Honors).

Dr. Fountain grew up in Oregon and began teaching history in 1992 as a high school social studies teacher in the Willamette Valley. After a lengthy circuit that included Illinois, Nebraska, California, and finally the Pacific Northwest again, he has resumed his habit of hiking and climbing whenever possible. He is also a board member of the Salmon Creek Watershed Council.
