Karen is a second-year Doctor of Pharmacy candidate at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical sciences (WSU CPPS). Karen graduated Summa cum laude from Washington State University (WSU) Pullman with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in May 2019. During her undergraduate career, she was involved in different research opportunities; beginning fall 2016, Karen worked with Dr. Jeffrey Jones in the WSU Department of Chemistry studying substrate-enzyme interactions of the enzyme Aldehyde oxidase, for which she presented a poster at the WSU Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) in spring 2018. During summer 2018, she worked with Dr. Jason Wu studying acetylcholine signaling and chemotherapy-resistant prostate cancer as a part of the WSU Spokane Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF/SRF) Program for which she earned first place in the undergraduate category for her presentation at the WSU CPPS Research Day. During her undergraduate career, Karen additionally served as an undergraduate student mentor for students pursuing careers in STEM and a student ambassador for WSU Pullman. She currently serves as president-elect for the WSU CPPS Student Ambassadors and as historian for the WSU CPPS American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Student Societies of Health-System Pharmacists. Through these combined experiences, she hopes to become a skilled and experienced pharmacist and to serve members of her community in the Pacific Northwest.
