Vinicius (Vini) Garnica joined the Department of Plant Pathology at Washington State University as an Assistant Professor in June 2026. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology with a minor in Statistics from North Carolina State University (2024), an M.Sc. in Agronomy with a minor in Statistics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (2019), and a B.Sc. in Agronomy from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil (2016). Before joining WSU, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at The Ohio State University. Dr. Garnica was an FFAR Fellow and currently serves as Chair-Elect of the Epidemiology Committee of the American Phytopathological Society. His research program focuses on understanding and managing plant diseases through quantitative approaches, botanical epidemiology, statistical modeling, and population biology to improve crop health and productivity.
