A., Cleveland\/Akron, Ohio<\/p>\n<p>Advanced thermal food processing technologies like microwave assisted thermal sterilization and pressure assisted thermal sterilization require food to be packaged during processing. These processes influence the morphology, thermal, and mass transfer properties of polymeric films used for food packaging and hence deteriorate the shelf-life of food. My research focuses on developing high performance polymeric based metalized and nanocoated multilayer films for advanced thermal food processing technologies and studying their performance after processing and during long-term storage. The other aspect of my research includes the understanding of the food-package interaction and the migration of additives from packaging films to food during the thermal processes. This work is partly funded by the food security USDA special research grant entitled \u201cDeveloping innovative packaging for advanced processing technologies to insure the integrity and safety of processed foods\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roopesh M.
