This study is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Kristina Johnson and her team at Northeastern University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Study Matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ways babies communicate at 12 months through sounds, gestures, eye gaze, and early words form the foundation for later language. Careful measurement of these early behaviors allows researchers to better understand communication patterns across development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your family\u2019s participation contributes to research that supports children with diverse communication profiles and strengthens how communication is assessed in clinical settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Can Participate?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Your child may be eligible if they:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\" wsu-list--columns-2\">\n<li>Are 11 to 13 months old<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Were born full term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have no current developmental concerns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Hear English as the primary language at home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unsure whether your child qualifies, please email <a href=\"mailto:medicine.commdev@wsu.edu\">medicine.commdev@wsu.edu<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Participation Looks Like<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">Participation includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>One in person visit at WSU Spokane, approximately 90 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three Zoom sessions, including a setup call, a short play-based session with your child, and a parent interview<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities are play based and include snack time, free play, bubbles, and a short video.
