WSU Trimble Lab Major Hardware Upgrades

Washington State University’s Trimble Technology Lab is excited to announce the installation of 12 new high-performance computers, replacing the older models. This upgrade is set to significantly enhance the research and teaching capabilities for both students and faculty.

The new computers come equipped with the latest processors, increased RAM, and high-end graphics cards, providing the necessary power to handle complex simulations, data analyses, and modeling tasks. This upgrade is particularly beneficial for research projects requiring intensive computational resources, such as geospatial analysis, modelling, rendering, simulation, and Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).

The new computers offer a more reliable and efficient platform for conducting classes that rely on sophisticated software. This means smoother demonstrations, quicker data processing during lectures, and overall a more seamless learning experience.

During Fall 2023, four computers were replaced, while another eight were replaced in summer 2024. The specs for the computers are provided below:

Fall additions:
i7 -12700K
64GB RAM
500GB NVME
RTX 4060

Summer additions:
i9- 12900HK
32GB RAM
1TB NVME
Intel Iris Xe
