One recent example is the master&#8217;s thesis of Tendaishe Mugaviri, whose research combined SketchUp, Enscape, and virtual reality to investigate how lighting influences visitors&#8217; emotional and perceptual experiences in museum environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Completed as part of the Master of Interior Design program, Tendaishe&#8217;s thesis, <em>Illuminating Culture: The Emotional and Perceptual Impact of Museum Lighting in a Virtual Egyptian Exhibition<\/em>, explored how different lighting distribution strategies affect the way people experience and interpret cultural spaces. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"792\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2755\/2026\/06\/image-9-792x315.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2755\/2026\/06\/image-9-792x315.png 792w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2755\/2026\/06\/image-9-396x157.png 396w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2755\/2026\/06\/image-9-768x305.png 768w, https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-labs\/uploads\/sites\/2755\/2026\/06\/image-9.png 906w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The research relied extensively on resources available through the WSU Trimble Technology Lab, particularly its virtual reality headsets, which enabled participants to experience the virtual museum in an immersive environment. Using SketchUp, Tendaishe modeled the museum architecture, exhibition layout, and a series of original Egyptian-inspired relief panels created specifically for the study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tendaishe also presented her research at the WSU Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) Research Exposition, where attendees experienced the virtual museum firsthand using the VR headset.
