Crime, Cannabis, and Police

Welcome to the Crime, Cannabis, and Police (CCP) Research Portal. This research is funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) with the specific focus of understanding what influence the legalization of Cannabis (Marijuana) has on public safety in Washington state. Two questions frame the research that will be conducted over the next three years (2017-2020).

Those questions include:
– How are police handling crime and offenders, particularly involving marijuana, before and after legalization?
– What are the effects of marijuana legalization on crime, crime clearance, and other policing activities statewide, as well as in urban, rural, tribal, and border areas?

In answering these questions, we incorporate multiple research methodologies, spanning multiple research sites, including urban, rural, tribal, and border areas.
