Project Overview

The Crime, Cannabis and Police NIJ-funded research project will use a high quality, three-tiered, mixed-methods approach to investigate two main objectives. The research will focus on how law enforcement is handling crime and offenders, particularly involving marijuana, before and after legalization. Additionally, we will be concentrating on the effects of marijuana legalization on crime, crime clearance, and other policing activities in urban, rural, tribal, campus, statewide, and border areas since the implementation of I-502. The goal of this research is to determine the effect of marijuana legalization on law enforcement and crime, as well as provide timely, practice-directed advice to state, local and international criminal justice agencies on the effect of marijuana legalization.
