The CAIRE Research Lab is the Center for AI Research and Education Initiative at Washington State University, serves as an interdisciplinary hub for responsible AI innovation in education.
We support collaborative research, empower educators and emerging scholars, and partner with communities to advance ethical, human-centered AI in K–16 learning environments.

Our Project
ADAPT-AI
ADAPT-AI project focuses on the design and evaluation of an AI-empowered assessment system to support three-dimensional science learning aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
AI-Empowered Group Argumentation
This project develops an AI-powered Group Argumentation Coordinator to support argumentation-based science learning in middle school classrooms in Washington State.
Rural AI for Societal Equity (RAISE)
The RAISE project examines how generative AI is being adopted in rural K–12 education and how this adoption shapes both classroom practice and long-term workforce equity.
Three-Dimensional Learning Progression (3DLP)
The 3DLP project focuses on developing and empirically testing a three-dimensional as articulated in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) learning progression (LP) for middle school physical science.
K–12 STEM Teacher AI Literacy
The project builds a community of practice that brings together teachers, researchers, and local partners to co-design professional learning workshops focused on AI literacy.
