CAIRE received a Microsoft AI for Good grant to build ADAPT-AI

CESHS researcher brings AI-powered science tools to rural teachers with Microsoft grant

The CAIRE Research Lab is proud to share that Dr. Tingting Li has received a $50,000 Microsoft AI for Good grant to advance AI-powered science assessment tools for rural elementary teachers in Washington State.

The project will develop an adaptive assessment system that helps teachers design NGSS-aligned, location-based science curriculum using Microsoft Azure AI. The platform is designed to support multilingual learners, streamline teacher workflow, and increase equity in under-resourced rural classrooms.

Over the next two years, the system will be piloted with educators in communities such as Pullman and Colfax. Teachers will collaborate in testing and refining the tool to ensure usability, effectiveness, and alignment with classroom needs.

Dr. Li, along with faculty collaborators Dr. Peng He and Dr. Brian French, was recognized at a ceremony at Microsoft headquarters for this achievement.
