Eco-epidemiology of Zoonotic Diseases

Our Research

The EZD lab is located at the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health and our research focuses on the transmission of zoonotic diseases within a One Health framework and we integrate approaches and methods from ecology and epidemiology .

Ecology:

Studies the relationships between organisms and their environment across scales

Epidemiology:

Studies the distribution of disease in a population, causes of disease and its impacts

Our approach

System thinking approach to integrate the human and ecological components that determines the emergence and persistence of zoonotic diseases.

Our methods

We use empirically-driven models derived from field collected data. We use a participatory approach when conducting field work in affected communities.

Field sites and projects

We are also working on The Coupled Natural and Human System of Lyme disease on Staten Island, NY. Link to project website
