Eligibility requirements
For this study we are requesting
- Post-mortem tissue samples from the gastroesophageal sphincter and esophagus of dogs with megaesophagus diagnosed either pre or post mortem.
- Patient medical records documenting the megaesophagus diagnosis and underlying etiology if known.
Instructions for sample collection
Samples should be fresh or refrigerated and preserved in formalin and include the following:
- The entire gastroesophageal sphincter
- 1 inch long, full-thickness segment of the mid-esophageal body.
Samples can be submitted in 1 or 2 ways
Option 1: Direct Submission
After collecting samples, they can be sent directly to:

Please include clinic information and patient information with the submission.
Medical records can be sent by email to jmhaines@wsu.edu.
Option 2: Request a Submission Packet
After collecting samples, contact us to request a submission packet containing a prepaid shipping label and shipping supplies.
The packet will contain information on submitting patient medical records and how to receive a reimbursement amount for sample collection.
