Introduction to VMEL

VetMedEco lab Supporting health and conservation - website logo

The Veterinary & Medical Ecology lab (VMEL) is focused on the ecology and epidemiology of pathogens and toxicants with medical and veterinary significance, particularly zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, heavy metals and anticoagulant rodenticides. We have special interests in rodent systems and integrated pest management at the human-animal-environment interface.

We use a One Health systems approach in our investigations, which integrate laboratory, field, and computational methods and draw from separate yet related disciplines including ecology, epidemiology, veterinary public health and toxicology.

Feel free to peruse other sections of our lab website, which is a work in progress!

Animal, human, and environment sectors and disciplines and society are merged through collaboration, communication, coordination and capacity building to generate One Health, which is the intersection of healthy humans, animals, and ecosystems.
