The Shen Lab has been awarded $200,000 through the President’s Big Ideas Initiative to lead the development of a Microbiome-Based Precision Biology Platform Integrating Multi-Omics, Organoid-on-Chip, and Artificial Intelligence. This interdisciplinary effort brings together Dr. Yoko Ambrosini from the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Dr. Honghao Wei from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Dr. Lily Zhu from the Department of Management, Information Systems, and Entrepreneurship.
This new platform will integrate advanced multi-omics, organoid-on-a-chip models, and AI-driven analytics to uncover cause-and-effect relationships in the microbiome and help guide targeted interventions. It is designed to generate high-value data, enable real-world applications, and support future commercialization efforts. By bringing together expertise across WSU, the project will strengthen biotechnology innovation and create broad benefits for communities and industries across Washington. It will also provide exciting opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in interdisciplinary research.
