Smart and Green Infrastructure Lab

Smart and Green Infrastructure Group

The Smart and Green Infrastructure (SGI) research group at Washington State University consists of a multidisciplinary team with expertise in the following fields:

  1. Construction of eco-smart communities and sustainable built environments: e.g., multifunctional coatings and admixtures, recycling and valorization of industrial byproducts and agro-wastes, permeable pavements, and nanotechnology for civil infrastructures
  2. Materials science for circular economy, for historically underserved communities, and for decarbonization, construction, and resilience of infrastructure
  3. Durable and resilient infrastructure, e.g., multi-scale engineering and characterization, corrosion protection, preservation and rehabilitation techniques, self-healing concrete, coatings, and functional layers

Our Goal

Our goal is to effect positive changes to industry and society through innovations and partnerships. To this end, we strive to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions and focus on impactful R&D.

Our Philosophy

The SGI philosophy is focused on the following:

  • Stimulate cross-disciplinary collaboration and synergy
  • Make a difference in reducing footprints of civil infrastructures and enabling durable, sustainable, and resilient built environment
