Meet the Team

Hsin-Ya Liao, Principal Investigator, hsinya.liao@wsu.edu

Dr. Liao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Washington State University. She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Dr. Liao then worked as a post-doc in Quantitative and Social Psychology at the UIUC Department of Psychology, working with Dr. James Rounds and Dr. Ying-Yi Hong. Her research centers on the role of culture, diversity, and intergroup relations on mental health service delivery and psychological well-being. She is also interested in cross-cultural examinations of psychological assessments.
Michelle Jung, Graduate Student, michelle.jung@wsu.edu

Michelle Jung is a second-year doctoral student in clinical psychology. She joined our lab in the fall of 2023 to assist with a longitudinal study that explored study-abroad college students’ intercultural skill development and adjustment. Her current thesis explores the interplay of culture and emotion suppression on stigma and help-seeking.
Katherine M. Craig, Graduate Student, katherine.craig@wsu.edu

Katherine M. Craig is a first-year doctoral student in clinical psychology. She joined the lab in the fall of 2024 after three years at the Veterans Affairs, where she worked on projects related to post-deployment mental health. Katherine is interested in examining the link between help-seeking behaviors and implicit and explicit biases. She also working on CAW Lab projects related to occupational prestige and cross-cultural assessments.

Alexander Watt is an undergraduate psychology student at WSU. Alex is currently researching perceptions of academic success in undergraduate students as a WSU Honors thesis research project. He has additional psychology research experience working with the WSU Building Opportunities for Learning and Development (BOLD) Lab performing social psychological research.
Consuelo Munguia, Undergraduate Student, consuelo.munguia@wsu.edu

Consuelo Munguía is an undergraduate here at WSU pursuing a dual degree in Psychology and Speech and Hearing Sciences. Consuelo is currently a McNair scholar looking to expand education and awareness of cognitive disorders within older underrepresented communities. Particularly, she is exploring the barriers and stigmas within mental health in older adults within Latino communities with the hope of building diverse healthcare options and knowledge.
