postdocs

Zhen Chen, postdoctoral fellow

I obtained my Ph.D. degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in early 2019 based on the research on recycling industrial/construction wastes as construction materials including cement concrete, concrete block, and geopolymer. I joined WSU as a postdoctoral researcher in August 2019 and am now working on the potential use of recycled nanofibers in cement products. I have a great interest in the characterization of materials for concrete construction use and the testing of the performance of concrete products.

Othman Alshareedah, Ph.D. student

After my M.Sc. degree in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman, I joined WSU in January 2017 as a Ph.D. student. At SQU, I worked as a research assistant in a project to develop soil-cement blocks using oil-contaminated water. I was also heavily involved in a project to obtain the mechanical properties of FRP reinforcement. My M.Sc. thesis was on the performance of concrete columns reinforced with GFRP bars. I worked previously as a structural engineer for a consulting firm where I gained broad experience in the design of concrete structures. My current research focus is on the behavior of pervious concrete under fatigue loading. I like soccer, traveling and outdoor activities as well as reading about history and humanities.

Mostofa Haidar, MS student

I completed my BSc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in April 2012. I worked for Bangladesh Bridge Authority as an Assistant Engineer for about 4 years since June 2014. I have experience in power plant and tunnel construction and road maintenance projects. I have started a MS in Civil Engineering at Washington State University. My areas of interest are pavement design, pavement material characterization, soil improvement, and tunneling. I like to travel and playing cricket. I am a passionate follower of soccer leagues.

Abdullah Moman, MS student

I completed my Bachelor from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) from the Department of civil engineering in September 2017. I worked as a lecturer at a private university for almost one and a half years. I am currently enrolled in WSU for Masters in Spring 2020. My core interest always centered around Pavement, Concrete and Soil. For my thesis, I worked with parameters of soil and also rendered computer models of slip surfaces of embankments. Currently, I’m focused on the electrical properties of concrete. How electrical properties can predict the sustainability and serviceability of concrete. Travelling, photography and Real Madrid soccer matches are my escape from a busy life.
