Continuity from 2023-2025 LiU-WSU Scientific Computing Program

Student House at LiU’s Valla Campus
By analogy with the inheritance aspect of object-oriented programming, the NSF-IRES Cybersecurity program continues and inherits essentially all aspects of its predecessor 2023-2025 LiU- WSU Scientific-Computing program, with the previous scientific-computing research focus being replaced by Cybersecurity research. Hence, students in this program can rely on the feedback of the predecessor program’s students and benefit from the same transformative experiences. The many WSU students who have been admitted to study and conduct research at LiU in the predecessor program are presented next.

WSU Students’ Comments
- “Things are going quite well in Linköping. We see each other every week with our research meetings. Sejal, Liam, and Emma traveled to Berlin together. Some of us are planning to travel to Lapland for a group trip. Thank you again for everything you did to make this program happen!”
- “Sweden has a great reputation for not only education but general quality of life and a rich culture.”
- “It was very enjoyable to learn about study culture from other international students and learning why they are pursuing an education. It is important to expand our view as students outside of one academic institution. International experience has helped me to understand parts about myself that I would not have learned if I did not take a semester abroad.”
- “I get the chance to study what I’m most interested in, be part of the research group, and also get insight into how the work we do is relevant to industry. It’s a fantastic mix.”
- “Through this program I will get a foundation in computational research. This will add onto the laboratory skills that I have already developed and help me be a more versatile and well-rounded researcher”
- “I have already landed an internship, in part due to the coursework I was given the opportunity to take in Sweden. I’ve used a lot of what I learned (especially from my Additive Manufacturing and Virtual Manufacturing classes) to stand out from other applicants, and bring new knowledge to the team I am working with now.”
- “What I learned through my coursework, and about the work culture in Scandinavia was invaluable. I gained a significant amount of confidence in who I am, who I want to be, and in my field.”
- “Go for it! International programs are wonderful opportunities to learn new things outside of the classroom and to broaden your horizons at a time in your life when you are still shaping who you will become.”
- “This exchange program was the highlight of my undergraduate studies, so I am very thankful for the program.”
- “I would do it all over again, given the chance!”
