The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is used extensively in ecology and agriculture. Brad Luff is currently working to create a cost-effective NDVI camera that can be attached to a UAV allowing us to create NDVI maps with a much higher resolution than can be achieved with aerial photography or satellite imagery. Once completed we intend to fly along streams so that we can define the extent of the riparian zone. It may also be possible to make some estimates to riparian health which has applications in protecting our streams.
